Laser Hair Removal
The most important thing about Laser Epilation in a medical clinic is the right diagnosis of skin and hair type. After this diagnosis doctor will decide on the appropriate laser technology (Alexandrite, NdYAG, IPL etc)
Which areas is it for?
Laser system could do epilation in any area of your body including face, legs, arms, armpits, back. Besides, it could easily be applied in gentle areas such as breast, nipples, bikini lines.
What do you feel during this treatment?
Some patients feel a slight sting when the laser beam is applied. Usually there is no need for painkillers or local anesthesia.
How many sessions will I need?
Generally 3-6 sessions are required. Treatment session amount which is needed to provide long term optimal benefits from this treatment depend on many factors. For example; thickness of strands, area of application, growth stage of the hair. Interestingly, not all the strands of the body grow actively and they actually have 3 separate stages: Growth, transition and rest. Treatment is effective by destroying the hair strands which are in the stage of active growth. Because of the fact that other strands will enter the growth stage in different times, there is a necessity for additional sessions to damage all the strands.
What happens after the session?
The area may look a bit red and blistered just after the treatment (redness will disappear typically in a few hours). Within 3-7 days after surgery, your strands may seem like growing again. However, these strands are actually falling due to the effects of treatment so that is not growth what you are seeing. Wax should not be applied between the sessions or strands should not be pulled out with tweezers. Shaving is allowed.
Is there a restriction on daily activities after the treatment?
You can return to your normal activities just after the treatment. If you will be exposed under the sun it is advised to use sun protection creams for the areas of treatment. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sunbathe. Your doctor may advise an additional skin care production or give you a skin care cure unique for your skin type.
What are the possible side effects?
In some cases, slight redness and regional blistering may be observed. These side effects typically disappear in a few hours or less. Bulla may be seen in very rare cases. You may consult your doctor and get information about advantage and risks of the treatment.
For how long do the results last?
The reduction of growing strands in the treated area is permanent. Because of the fact that strands have 3 stages and every strand is on a different stage, it is not possible to destroy all the strands in one laser session. Clinical studies showed that effects of this treatment on patients who had two sessions of treatment did not change during one year and lasted all that time. The results changes for every person but generally 3-6 sessions are necessary to gain the best results.
